Prof Dr Daniel Chong Ka Leong

Professor and Dean of School of Hospitality & Tourism Management.

Professor Dr Daniel Chong is the Dean of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Sunway University and the Head of the Asia Pacific Centre for Hospitality Research.

With over 18 years of experience in hospitality education and training, he combines academic leadership with deep industry engagement.

Holding a Doctorate in Business Administration with a specialisation in branding, he is also a certified corporate trainer, hotelier, sommelier, and barista.

Dr Chong is actively involved in Malaysia's Hospitality and Events industry through industrial and research projects and lifelong learning initiatives, ensuring strong linkages between academia and practice.

His background in management, training, and consultancy spans multinational hotel groups and franchised restaurants, providing him with practical insights into industry challenges and opportunities.

His research contributions focus on sustainability, innovation, and transformation in Asia’s tourism, hospitality, and food industries. Internationally, Dr Chong serves as the National Representative (Malaysia) to both the ASEAN-Korea Tourism Roundtable Steering Committee and its Technical Working Party, facilitating multilateral dialogue and collaboration across Asia.

He is also a Board Member of the Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA), underscoring his commitment to advancing hospitality and tourism research in the region.
